This research aims to increase students' understanding of the concept of area of a square and rectangle using a constructivist approach in class III of SD Inpres 3/77 Araseo Kab. Bone. This research was carried out in class III of SD Inpres 3/77 Araseo District. Bone with a total of 28 students consisting of 15 men and 13 women. The types of data obtained include qualitative data and quantitative data obtained from the results of study tests, observations and field notes, where the implementation of classroom action research (PTK) is carried out in three cycles by going through several stages for each cycle starting from planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The research results showed that the average score achieved by students at the end of each lesson from cycle I to cycle III showed good improvement. This can be interpreted as meaning that students have experienced increased understanding in connecting one concept with other concepts. In this way, learning through a constructivist approach can increase students' understanding of the concept of rectangular area learning which is carried out in three learning stages. Students' good understanding of the concept of rectangular area indicates that the constructivist approach allows it to be used as a learning model in improving student achievement in mathematics, especially in elementary schools.
